Default Presidential dollars from the mint at face value and no shipping!

http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/inde...release&ID=911

Summary: You can now order either $250 or $500 worth of JQA dollar rolls
direct from the mint at face value with no shipping. Presumably, this
will be extended to include other presidents as they come out.

The only catch (aside from the $250 box size) is that you can't choose
mint marks. In fact, they say "The coins will not be separated by mint
mark" - however I would *guess* that each box will be all from the same
mint.

Anyone know more about this program?

Why would they do this when, according to Ed Moy, the Presibux program is
more wildly successful than they imagined?

1. They may have imagined very small.
2. Mr. Moy may be [gasp] prevaricating.

That is easy and can be understood by reading the entire press release
and combining this information with past information. Remember that
there have been ongoing assessments about what the public and the
business community wants/needs with respect to dollar coin
availability. Some people live where the banks will just not order
them for them. Some have banks that require them to order a full box
of $1000 or their banks say they cannot get their regional cash vault
to order them unless they get a gigantic minimum order. obviously most
of us have been able to obtain them from local banks at face value,
but not everyone has.

And the number of recirculated/commingled dollar coins is increasing.
My last 4 boxes of dollar coins from the bank were all commingled
(with a dwindling number of SBAs). Some merchants want a supply of
shiny new dollars. This program (as stated in the release) is not a
substitute for normal coin distribution and there is a limit on how
many you can get. it is not for numismatic purposes, hence the lack of
mint mark selectability.
