Craig I must advise you that is is not safe to put your stamps in a cat
(a dog or any other pet for that matter) even if they are common.
Those two stamps are SG 830 & 831.

For those who don't have a catalogue these are the original decimal
currency "high values" issued in 1971 when airmail to the states was 7
1/2p not 68p like now - I know this 'cause I had a Canadian girlfriend
at the time- but thats another story. They were engraved rather than
photogravure like the low values but with galloping inflation the
lower values in the series were soon replaced by standard format while
the higher ones were replaced by the castles.
Now these have been replaced in turn by further standard format
machins.

These eng. machins were printed on several different types of paper
and some are more valuable than others although you won't retire on
the proceeds of the sale of any of them. They tend to be scarcer than
their catalogue price would imply- especially in good condition as
most of them were used on parcels and were often removed therefrom
with more enthusiasm than care ( voice of experience! )

Craig:

I suggest you go to the online Machin stamp catalogue website at:
http://www.adminware.ca/machin.htm

This will help you identify them.

Great web site by the way.

Blair
