Peru Query
I am about to lightly soak some early Peru
of gunk and part hinges. With regards to the embossed "grille" issues, do the members think pressing will likely damage them? anybody have experience with these? I guess same goes for the early Portuguese embossed busts while I am at it. Thanks. |

Never press down grills or embossings, particularly the latter, and when placing the stamp(s) into your drying book (I trust you have one of those) rest at most a medium-weight book atop after closing to ensure that the stamp(s) dry flat whilst preserving any and all grills and embossings. However, just in case, I did not put any pressure on the stamps. I let them dry and, as long as all the gum has been removed, they did not "curl" up. As far as Portuguese issues someone else will have to give you that answer. Jerry Bodoff |

Thankyou Jerry,
I just wanted to make sure they didn't come out with soaking, although I leave them in a minimal time in cold water. I had been reading a post from Tracy Barber about the Portuguese issues, and their tendency to split around the bust outline, so I'll exercise due care. I'll use 2 sheets of fresh blotter in a Dictionary. | Hi Rodney, | I have soaked these Peru issues and have found no damage to the | embossed "grille". I'll use 2 sheets of fresh blotter in a Dictionary. Separate 'em. Soak 'em with CARE. Let them dry very well before putting them in book. Do not put HEAVY weights on them. Otherwise, you *may* be sorry. The early Portugal and some others are notorious for cracking. It can, however, be worked out with time and patience. These are not your common defins! YMMV... |
