Default Altering paper money for blind

Maurice Peret of Mechanicsville has no major problem handling his paper
money. Like many blind people, he folds currency a certain way to
distinguish a $5 bill from a $20 bill or other denominations.

How does he identify the bill initially in order to fold it properly?

I have a blind friend that has a little battery operated machine, you stick
in a bill, and hear

ONE
FIVE
TWENTY

it works up to $100, I don't know if it does $2, he never had a $2 when I
was around

he worked in one of those concession stands at a federal courthouse/US
postoffice building

Of course, if he had one of those machines, he wouldn't have to fold his
bills at all would he? Guess folding is for speed and convenience, not
necessity, for those folks who can afford the machine. I can certainly see
where the machine would be a huge help for blind vendors receiving bills as
payment, but it would seem a little ackward to carry around for daily use as
a customer.
