I & my children and grandchildren mostly prefer "none of the above" and we should not be tricked into experiencing it without the opportunity to avoid it. Obviously, a double standard since you put this inappropriate, childish, and immature try at humor on the internet (in this group) where many youngsters can see it. You: invest in blindfolds for everyone... Me: Do you wear a blindfold when you sell a 1916 or 1917T1 SL quarter? You: No I don't. Are you the guy who sits there and rubs them until you can hardly see the date? You're no better than Janet Jackson. Only she apologized for her behavior. |

If you do not want to be offended by anything on television unawares, there is only one solution, shut off the television set at all times. I was quite offended, and quite unawares, when I saw GWB state that he would oppose eny form of marriage of homosexuals at all times. Offense is only in the eye of the beholder. I have two children, a boy and a girl, but both know already from early on that you can see quite unawares something that offends you. And, so what? You do not agree, that does not mean that experiencing it means that you agree with it? Obviously, a double standard since you put this inappropriate, childish, and immature try at humor on the internet (in this group) where many youngsters can see it. There is indeed, obviously, a double standard. I see quite a few US television films off late. Also some of the reality series from overthere. What always offends me greatly is the extreme violence by which the police apprehends a suspect. Immediate handcuffs, and what you want, even for suspects of minor offences. Why was Michael Jackson handcuffed when he surrendered? I have no idea, except to think that such brutality is just common practice. And that handcuffing was some violence I had just to see pretty unawares, in a news item. On the other hand, when somebody speaks the much dreaded F-word on television it has to be beeped off. Double standard, indeed. (And, yes, in the Netherlands, most suspects that are apprehended are *not* handcuffed.) You're no better than Janet Jackson. Only she apologized for her behavior. Of course she did. She was forced to. Would she have been forced to apologize when he had smacked her on the face? (Assuming a proper song of course?) Reminds me of the time of the "Ed Sullivan show" with the "Rolling Stones" and their hit "Let's spend the night together". -- dik t. winter, cwi, kruislaan 413, 1098 sj amsterdam, nederland, +31205924131 home: bovenover 215, 1025 jn amsterdam, nederland; http://www.cwi.nl/~dik/ |

Reminds me of the time of the "Ed Sullivan show" with the "Rolling Stones" and their hit "Let's spend the night together". Which Sullivan made them promise to sing as "Let's spend some time together" or he told them they'd never appear on his show again.. He tried the same thing with Jim Morrison and The Doors, except Morrison, who agreed ahead of time to change the words in "Light My Fire".. not only didn't bend to Sullivan's changing of his lyric, he flaunted the original lyric by leaning right into the camera as he sang it. This is nicely documented in Oliver Stone's excellent film "The Doors" featuring Val Kilmer's stunning portrayal of Morrison.. IMNSHO, Kilmer should have won the Best Actor Oscar for that role, just as he should have for his portrayal of Doc Holliday in "Tombstone" but he was totally ignored twice.. He's too much of a druggy prick to ever win an Oscar. Plus Johnny Depp has the dark, skinny, and handsome genre locked up. |
