Default Deciphering description in Scott catalog

I may have missed this in the introduction part of the catalog however,
I'm looking at catalog # U277. In the description for illustration U67
it will have listings such as

2c Brown
a. 2c Brown lake
2c Brn Amber

and so forth. What does the 'lake' and 'amber' mean? There are also
lines such as Brn Oriental Buff and Brn Blue, Brn Fawn.

Thanks for clearing this up.

Chris
