Rotation & De-skew are the same thing.

Not in the least!

Skewing is the adjustment of a parallelogram back to or away from a
rectangular shape. NOTE: a rectangle is a subset of parallelogram.

That is normally called shear, not skew.
Skew - shear synonyms when applied to altering a parallelogram.
Please name a professional graphics program with a 'shear' transformation
tool!

Photoshop

I was going to mention this after looking it up in Photoshop's Help.
There are both "skew" and "shear" functions to be found therein.

Must be CS, not in the list for 5.5 or 7.

Are the functions the same (synonyms) or as separate as skew and rotate in
PS ?

In CS2, skew and shear are 2 different commands / tasks.

1) SKEW:

Select what you want to transform.

Choose Edit Transform Scale, Rotate, Skew, Distort, Perspective,
or Warp.

....

Note: (Photoshop) If you are transforming a shape or entire path, the
Transform menu becomes the Transform Path menu. If you are
transforming multiple path segments (but not the entire path), the
Transform menu becomes the Transform Points menu.

....

If you chose Skew, drag a side handle to slant the bounding box.

2) SHEAR:

The Distort filters geometrically distort an image, creating 3D or
other reshaping effects. Note that these filters can be very memory
intensive. The Diffuse Glow, Glass, and Ocean Ripple filters can be
applied through the Filter Gallery.

....

Shear Distorts an image along a curve. Specify the curve by dragging
the line in the box. You can adjust any point along the curve. Click
Default to change the curve back to a straight line. In addition, you
choose how to treat undistorted areas.

"Shear" gets two hits in "Help" for Photoshop 7.0.

Default OT - saving images

Hi,

I never said anything about shear. I simply stated that skew & rotation
imply the same thing. If an image is skewed, to me it means one of it's
sides/top
is not perpendicular/staright.

We can get caught up in all the terminology & look up all the definitions we
want.
To ME, skew/rotation imply the same thing. If they mean something else to
others,
so be it.

My post was not to get into a discussion on semantics.
I was simply stating that for people who want to have software to
Automatically Rotate/Deskew, Auto-Crop & Auto-SEPARATE,
the tool already exists.

It was also to inform the groug that SoftPro will be releasing very soon,
Stamp Recognition Software. Simply scan in yoru stamp & the software
will identify it for you.

Anyone wnating more info, let me know & I will put you on the short list
for the demo version.

regards
MArios

So marios is incorrect in using shear for skew ... except possibly the one
instance of a straight path with no 'adjustments' or interior 'points'.

Thanks for the notes on the CS 'shear'.
