introduction from a new lurker

Although not the official Welcome Wagon of RCC, welcome anyway!! Sounds
to me like you have a good plan by reading more about the subject at
hand. I'm sure many here will tell you to do just that. Also, feel free
to ask questions of the group. There are many experts here and they
share information freely. Thanks for de-lurking.

Be careful, if you read too long, you may end up buying, not selling!
(We'd encourage that, btw.)

If the old coins are US coins, you might want to pick up a copy of the
Red Book, which is available in most bookstores for about $12. It is
usually on the high side for values, but will give you some idea. It also
has lots of interesting information about the coins.

Keep lurking, and jump in if something is unclear. Questions are welcome!

As a group, we tend to be friendly and helpful. Don't hesitate to ask
