Default Arlo signs my book...

Alice's Restaurant is long closed...but 40 years later, Arlo Guthrie
is still at it. I took my copy of "Alice's Restaurant Cookbook"
(Fine/Near Fine...with the audio recording still attached to the inside
of the back cover) to his concert last night in Milwaukee.

After the concert he made himself available.

"What can I do for you?" asked Arlo.

This was my first book signing experience. What to say?

"Write something inspiring" I answered.
(Probably not the smartest way to answer his question....but that was
all that came to mind)

In a flamboyant hand on the page opposite the table of contents he
wrote:

SOMETHING INSPIRING

ARLO GUTHRIE

It's true. You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant...

That's a great story. If he's that cooperative, though, it's too bad
you didn't ask for, "To Alice & Ray-- That was some Thanksgiving, wasn't
it? [signed] Arlo." Or something like that.

I would have asked for Arlo to write...

"See you at the Group W meeting..."

You are right...he was very gracious. No doubt I could have dictated
anything and he would have put it down.

Any other good inscription sugggestions from RCB'ers for the next time
Arlo's in Milwaukee..?

I would appreciate a little list.

Regards (from Glendale)

Jonathan Brodie? I should have realized; it would be somewhat unusual
to have two Jonathans from the Milwaukee area posting to a group with as
small a readership as this one. If it's you, you're the third old-timer
(if you don't take offense at that) to reappear at RCB in the past
couple weeks.

(Altus? As in "Cantata for Altus, 2 Violins and B. c." or something like?)

Bravo Jon ...you figured it out. My initials JB + altus (as homage
to the musical clef that has helped bring me so much wealth and fame) =
jbaltus.

As for being called an "old timer"...I'm honored.

Beats being called a viola player...

Best Regards,

Jonathan
