Default Has online sales hurt the card collecting hobby?

Hello,
I've seen many cards that once sold for hundreds available for around
$40 on ebay.com or whybidmore.com. Can anyone tell me if the rush of
online auctions and ease of access to internet suppliers has hurt the
card collecting business?

Thanks,

Chris
