Default Fake coins?

Howdy;

They all look like the plated replicas that were issued by a private mint.

I have seen these in various sizes and metals over the past 25 years or
so, though I really have not seen any in a while until this post.

Interesting but not worth more than a buck or three each.

Best regards

Dan

Craigslist Maine posting removed. Good job Craigslist! Wonder if eBay

will EVER do the same?

CL automatically removes any posting that gets two flags by readers as spam,
inappropriate, etc.

Every once in a while I flag coin listings in my city's CL site that link to
generic selling/bidding sites that have no apparent connection to my
locality and often show listings for coins other than those mentioned in the
CL offering. Then all it takes is one other eagle-eyed spam killer to flag
it and it's gone.

CL isn't a free spam machine. It is for locals who have specific items or
services to list in the immediate vicinity of the city where they were
posted. (There must be others patrolling CL for other reasons. Try posting
a prohibited listing for a firearm and see how long it stays up there.)

Anyway, CL puts a certain amount of control in the hands of its readers.
Fat chance that eBay will ever give anyone else veto power over its
listings.

There are just too many coins listed for Ebay to be a cop on them all,
so it's up to the buyer to take a chance, which is why it's best to
buy certified coins when possible.

If you buy from a reputible grading service..I suppose those could be
copied too..thats why I considered (still) joining one of them and
sending in the "best of the best" of my unslabbed hoard. I trust NGC
and PCGS and that's about it. I go to cough up the dough to join then
find something cool and buy that instead.
