Mind boggling toning?
Looks like every ugly quarter toning that I have seen.

Very unusual and far nicer than what is typically seen. Should be worth a hefty premium for the toning. As you say, to each his own! Ira |

While the colors might not be special the pattern is distinctive. |

"Ira Stein" mentioned: That's bulls-eye toning on a clad coin. Very unusual and far nicer than what is typically seen. Should be worth a hefty premium for the toning. As you say, to each his own! I haven't thought of toning in those terms, so thanks for mentioning it, Ira. I have a beautiful 1964-D quarter that would pass as the twin to that, though it is not slabbed. Still, I always admire it when I see it in the 2x2. Larry |

None of my clad coins tone. I have 5 Kennedy halves in kraft envelopes in a West facing window and one in kraft envelope on the dash of my car. All are 64's (90% silver). They have been there for 4 months now. Not a sign of toning at all. Some people have all the luck. NONE of the coins I have are toning. Geez! The SAE's I have in a Dansco are at least, some of them, toning nicely. My collections in Whitman albums are not toning at all. C'est la vie, say the old folks. Which goes to show, you never can tell. I am beginning to wonder if all toned clad coins are AT. You'd think at least one of my clad coins would show some toning if it were, indeed, possible. Hahaha! boB |

Hahaha! boB It's prob one of those that you need to wheel around in the light to see all the rainbows. To attain authetic target tone a coin has to remain mostly motionless over a long period of time in the exact conditions that exact coin needs to get a nice target tone on it. I'm seeing some colors I've seen in some mint set coins so this one has got to be from a mint set. Usually MS67's come out of mint sets since all the other 99.999% have roll friction on them. |
