Default MS Spam Tips

There are a couple of things you can do to stop or get rid of the supposed
Microsoft Update Patch spam emails that are currently clogging up many
inboxes:

1 - Set up a mail rule to delete ALL email with an attachment. The virus
is in the attachment should you be foolish enough to open it. If you expect
to receive valid email occassionally with an attachment, you will have to do
the grunt work of analying the spam email "from" and "subjects" to create a
refined delete rule that only deletes all this junk Microsoft email.
Apparently the perpetrator is not too bright, he/she is only using a half a
dozen or so subjects and from addresses. He/she is clearly a coward too,
since his/her own email is unavalable.

2 - Modify the properties of your internet news account so that your real
email is not what is posted on the public newsgroup. The spammer is
apparently getting email addresses from the public newsgroups. Once you
change the properties of your own account, add an instruction line in your
newsgroup posting telling people how to correctly contact you.

3 - NEVER open ANY email attachment unless you are 1000% certain of its
contents.

4 - If by some strange coincidence, the spammer actually uses a valid email
service as part of his/her address, report it to the abuse@ inbox of the
email service.

Good Luck !
