Tennyson's Poetical Works, 1899 publishing, bound in leather.
"snuh" wrote in message om... Tissue-Guarded Portrait Frontispiece; ¾ Leather Marbled Boards, All Marbled Edge, 5 Raised Bands on Spine, Marbled Endpapers, Armorial Book Plates to Interior Front Board. I have no idea what this is worth, anyone have a ballpark figure on it? Also have a similar book in same condition, published a little ealier as it was a gift in 1898, called 'All the Russians' - slightly smaller than the Tennyson tome. Any help - and I realize it's without seeing them, but they are in near mint condition, neither has been read, the spine hasn't even seen the slightest friction - in appraising these and hopefully selling them would be much appreciated. -jeff Like everything else they are only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them. ... Not thinking of auditioning for the Antiques Roadshow* by any chance are you? *UK TV Show. Set up in various locations around the country, where the public bring along their antiques and collectibles for appraisal by teams of experts. Their reactions to the valuations being one of the supposed high points of the show. Like *Who Wants to Be a Millionaire*, *Antiques Roadshow* is a British import that has become even more popular in its U.S. incarnation--it is, in fact, the most popular show on U.S. public television: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/roadshow/ I rather like the U.S. version--and don't care for the U.K. version--Erik Davis explains the difference he http://www.techgnosis.com/antiques.html There is genuine connoisseurship on the ARS-USA. I was even moved to read regular appraisers the Keno brothers' book *Hidden Treasures*, which is nothing but a big series of brags (albeit in the field of early American furniture) and quite enjoyable: http://www.leighkeno.com/affiliations/book.cfm William M.
