Sweet Wheat
I kid you not, a 1944-D MS wheat cent, full red, without the slightest
trace of a rub....from a roll search this past weekend! Alan '2x2 for you!' |

While this piece is sorta unique in my experience, as a BU Wheatie from a roll search, I not infrequently find 1961's, 1962-D's, 1967's etc in identical condition. About two years ago I was handed an entire roll of UNC. 1963-D's! You never know what you'll find until you look. Alan 'surprised headmaster of the numismatic orphanage' |

Might be worth sending some those '60's Lincolns to PCGS. The prices on those things in MS66+ grades are stupid high... http://www.pcgs.com/prices/frame.cht...ncoln_cent_mod I've been trying to amass a MS66RD collection of Lincolns and it seems much easier/cheaper to find the 40's Wheats than it is to get those early Memorials. -- Jim Seymour |

But then, I'm a dimosaur who regards MS-65 as the top of the scale anyway! Alan 'a number is a number, but a coin is a treasure' |

Well, to some extent, anyway. I don't do the roll searches. At least not yet. I just never seem to have enough time to search my own coins, let alone get a bunch more from the bank. I have about 20lbs of Wheaties that I've never looked thru! Some day..... Would be fun to find BU coins from roll/bag searches, though! It's like treasure hunting! ;-) -- Eric Babula Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA |

It's like treasure hunting! ;-) Yes, its exactly like treasure hunting! In addition to these few-and-far-between stunners, I delight in the foreign coinage and the odd error, blank, cud, chopmarked, and type varieties that surface. Among *other* things, this past month saw me place into mylars a 1941 Canadian Cent, a 1924 wheatie, a 1960-D small date and a very lovely AU 1958 Jefferson Nickel. ;-) Alan 'it doesnt take much to keep me happy' |
