Default Restoring Lettering to Stamped Names

A number of years ago I read a post somewhere on a method to restore names and ad copy that is on pens and pencils. It involved a material that was used as a filler to fill in the stamping. At the time I had no interest in the process.
Now that I do, I can't find the infoormation. I have looked and looked.
I think the material may be something found in an arts supply house.
Does anyone have any idea how this is done?...or any other way to restore this lettering?
Thanks

That's something I've never done, but possibly something wax-based would
work -- work it in and wipe any excess off the surrounding surface.
Possibilities might be high-quality artist's crayons or scratch-filling
"pencils" for furniture. There's also a paste-form product in a tube,
incorporating carnauba wax, called "Rub 'n Buff". That may only come in
metallic colors like gold, I'm not sure.

Brian,

I decided to call the local Hobbyland and see if they had any ideas. They did. The lady I talked to said that she thought goldleaf would work and when she said goldleaf a light bulb came on. That is what I had been told to use years ago, but could not remember.. I am going to try that out. Hopefully that will work on the gold lettering but I am still looking for a solution for white lettering, which is probably the most common color used. She did not have a solution for that one.

How about wiping white paint across the lettering, so that it stays in
the impressions?
