Default Book Signing Events

Is anyone aware of a web site that offers a comprehensive list of what
author's may be signing at what locations?

In what I can only describe as a tragedy, here in South Florida, there
used to be a few book stores that had authors come in to do readings,
signings, etc. With the exception of Books and Books, they have all
disappeared - I guess because they couldn't stand up with a Borders or
Barnes and Noble on every corner.

This has been such a loss.

The only real place to go now is the Miami Book Fair, which is
typically held in November. It was my favorite cultural event of the
year and I pretty much camped out down there for the 3 days of the
street fair. But I've found the authors they are bringing in and the
events they sponsored over the past few years aren't up to par with
what they did say - 8 to 10 years ago.

As an example - I think around 10 years back they had - get this -
Dave Barry and Stephen King's band come in to play one night and
sitting in with them was none other then Warren Zevon.

Picture Stephen King doing lyrics on "Werewolves of London" and
changing them to suit his macabre and horrifying literary style. It
was absolutely incredible!

At any rate, the Miami Book Fair just isn't bringing in the diversity
of authors that it did years ago - sadly.

Any help with finding a web site that I mentioned up above would be of
help.

Thank you. You guys and gals have been so helpful and I appreciate
your efforts!

Regards,

LiRM

No single "comprehensive" site that I know of. It's a bit of a
dilemma.

I've noticed that Amazon is starting to provide some services along
this line with its Amazon Connect program:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/arms/direct...075548-7573552

I'm in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and here are some of the
resources I check on a weekly basis:

The D.C. CITYPAPER's Arts section (I look under "Books" and "Talks"):

http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/l...gory=ARTEVENTS

The WASHINGTON POST's BOOK WORLD literary calendar:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...060101605.html

The D.C. Catholic Information Center hosts a surprising number of
signings:

And then there are all the Smithsonian and Library of Congress and
Folger Library and local university events, which sometimes make it to
their websites and sometimes only to departmental websites. It is very
hard to keep up with--and one wishes there were some giant aggregating
site.

There's a monthly list in Firsts. But I doubt it's on their website. OTOH
you can get it delivered to your house for $ 40.

I came across this link about a year or so ago -- maybe it helps:
