2N109 Germanium Transistor

I recently emailed one company who says they have new "fresh" 2n109's.
But I've been told that before. So before I go further, has anyone here
found NEW 2n109's or a way to switch to a newer transistor? (the
originals go bad just sitting on the shelf so old ones are almost always
noisy)

The amp I'm working on is a Seeburg SHFA1.

I forgot to ask about the European BC557 transistor. I read it is a
direct replacement, are these available?
