Name that doll: Is it Pierot/Pierrot?
Hi I have an elementary question I hope you will help me with.
I am trying to figure out the name of a type of doll. They are china or porcelain?, articulate (in limb that is, not in their speech), wear clown type costumes (classically plain), I think they always wear a kind of skull cap, and they have tears on their cheeks. You know the ones. It also occurs to me, might be wrong, that there were boy and girl versions, and that the reason they were crying was becasue they were apart. I thought it was "Pierot Doll" or "Pierrot Doll" but Im having not having much luck googling them. I am not looking to purchase, I just want to know about their history and origin. THANKS! |

The tear on the cheek is very stylised. I've never been aware of the 'complementary' boy and girl versions, although I guess there's no reason both sexes shouldn't exist. I thought it was "Pierot Doll" or "Pierrot Doll" but Im having not having much luck googling them. I am not looking to purchase, I just want to know about their history and origin. This will tell you the history of the Pierrot, but not about the dolls http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierrot http://www.colleges.org/techcenter/m...t/history.html I guess the dolls were just modelled on real life. -- the dot wanderer at tesco dot net |

Im really really surprised that these little guys dont have any pages devoted to them on the net. I would have thought they were quite collectable. Anyway, thanks for the pointers. If anyone knows where I can find more info about them, please do post. |
