Why would it need to be smaller than a quarter? What is wrong with
the current size?

Weight and bulk

Us here in the UK have managed fine with a thick and "heavy" £1 coin for
22 years with no complaints. Billy

Seems to work fine at that size in Canuckistan.

If the dollar bill goes away and is replaced by dollar coins of today's
size,
people will not use them because of the weight and bulk. That will be
another boondoggle. How often do you get any of the current dollar
coins anywhere except at stamp vending machines? In the UK, the
1 pound coin (worth about $1.80) is the size a nickel and has been
accepted by the public.

Bigger, thicker and heavier than a nickel.

However, the two pound coin has caught on perfectly happily
and it is much larger than the 'golden dollar'

Exactly. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the current US dollar
coin. It's only nominally more weighty than quarters, and no one
complains about them.

It always cracks me up -- the exact same people complain that dollar
coins get confused with quarters, and that they're too big and heavy.
You can't have it both ways.

Huh? Sackies are the exact same size as Susies, not larger.

Just ask the Canuckistanis. Their 'Loon' C$1 coin is exactly the same
dimensions as the current USA $1 coin.

All the presidential Golden Dollars will have liberty on them. On the
reverse. All of them.

They will continue to mint Sacagaweas as well (not sure if they will also
have the Statue of Liberty on the reverse).

Well, we all here know that "weaning" doesn't work. Didn't work in
1979 nor in 2000. This is one instance where cold turkey is the only
feasable way.

On the other hand, they WOULD have to flood America with nasty Dead
Presidents...

I am reminded of the old maxim: 'Be careful what you wish for'. With
the exception of the "dollar coins are too heavy to carry" fogeys,
almost everyone here (me incl.) has wished they would be rid of the
rag dollar in favour of the coin. Looks like we're going to get just
that, only with Willam Harrison's mug on in stead of some more
attractive Liberty.

Who was William Harrison? The US president whose ONLY claims to fame
are 1)longest inaugural speech, 2) shortest term in office (hint: the
two are almost the same length), 3) will have his mug on a dollar
coin.

BORING! The Dutch euro coins are more exciting.

I'll say it again...

**DON'T BE SO G$# D%#& *CHEAP*!!!!**

Adjust your tipping for inflation and use $5s. You'll be AMAZED by the
rapid improvement in the quality of the shows that you get in return.
