Most "real" news readers will do this for you automatically. Outlook Express is the major exception, but this deficiency is cured with OE-QuoteFix: http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/ I downloaded that Quotefix and it looks pretty neat. It installed as a shortcut icon on my desktop. I have to click on it to activate it. Is there a way to set it as a default to automatically take over whenever I read newsgroups? When I installed mine, it created a shortcut called "Outlook Express with OE-QuoteFix". Looking at the shortcut, it appears to run a program called "OELaunch.exe" in the OE-QuoteFix directory. Try running that and see if it starts the two programs together. -- Bob |

If I right-click on the systray icon it offers a Help option. In Help it says, "If you would like to keep OE-QuoteFix running all the time, disable Depend on OE and copy the stand-alone shortcut to your StartUp folder." This sounds like what I need to do. I see the "Depend on OE" button but I'm not clear as to how to do the copying. Do I drag the desktop shortcut somewhere? Do I do a copy/paste of the shortcut icon? If so, where do I paste it? Bruce |

Copy and paste the shortcut icon to whereever you like. Desktop, Start Menu, Quicklaunch toolbar, etc. Just like any other shortcut. FWIW, I keep mine on my QuickLaunch toolbar poised just to the right of my Start menu. -- Bob |

In order to activate Quotefix I have to click on one of these icons. It doesn't work by default. The HELP instructions say that to keep Quotefix running all the time I should copy the shortcut to my startup folder. Isn't it already there? Wow! New 2004-D Lincoln DDR discovery (CW, Feb 14) West coast collectors have been lucking out lately. Bruce |
