The 1 ounce gold is smaller than a Silver Eagle. It is close to the size of
a Half Dollar. The 1/2 ounce is similar in size to a US Quarter and 1/4
ounce is similar in size to a nickel. Also the larger the gold eagle, the
thicker it is.

I wouldn't get a proof....it wouldn't take much to scratch up the mirror
finished fields. I'd recommend a 1/4 ounce UNC.....just about the perfect size
and not much more than the $85.00 plus shipping that the Mint will charge you
for the 1/10 ounce proof.

I have a 1997 1/4 ounce UNC that I wear quite often.
