Frank, by "carefully dipped", what do you mean? Dip it quick and rinse it
proper is the only ways to carefully dip that I know. Also, do you think
the coin will be luster impaired? It looks too clean of marks to get as low
as 62, unless you are thinking that it has dulled luster, either already or
after a dip. Oh yeah, imo. Bill

I had the same question, but the question remains. You say "Don't leave
it in too long" but how long is too long? 2 seconds? 20 seconds?

A dip designed to remove tarnish (such as Tarn-X) will remove the tarnish
almost instantly. You really shouldn't need to immerse the coin for more than a
couple of seconds.

Since the active ingredient in these dips is usually acidified thiourea
(dissolves siver sulfate), some dippers will dunk the coin into a solution of
baking soda dissolved in water to neutralize the dip and stop the reaction.

This should be followed by a thorough rinse with distilled water. The coin
should then be allowed to air dry or you can pat it dry with a clean, soft
cloth....do not rub.

Note: the label on a bottle of Tarn-X says that thiourea has been identified by
the State of California as a possible carcinogen so you may want to wear rubber
gloves.(if you live in California) ;-)
