Default US C3 Vignette Shift - Late Arrival

Gang,

A question for all of you. I am interested in the variations of the
vignette shifts on US airmail Sc C3, the 24c carmine and blue issue. I
have seen 4 of a possible 5 vignette variations. They are commonly
known as "Grounded Airplane" (blue vignette positioned low and actually
overlapping the carmine frame), Early Arrival ((blue shifted to the
right so the nose of the plane is into the carmine frame), "Flying
High" (blue shifted up into the frame) and of course the "Inverted
Jenny." These are the four that I have seen.

I have looked at major auction catalogs for some time looking at all
the C3s being offered for a "Late Arrival" where the blue is shifted to
the left into the frame. As yet - 6 months - I have not seen mention
of this type of shift.

Question: Does this type of shift exist for this issue? It would make
sense that it does since all other varieties are around and readily
available - with one notable exception C3a.

TIA,

George

I believe I saw such a "late arrival" variety in a mind-boggling exhibit of
vignette shifts.at the Garfield-Perry stamp show in March 2004. But it has
been 15 months, so I can't be 100% sure.

Thanks Ada. Maybe I'll look in that direction and see if I can track
down some of the exhibits from that show.

Have you tried contacting specialists in errors, freaks, and oddities?

http://www.efoers.org/

There are also a number of dealers who specialize in this area.

Mike,

Thanks for the link! I have several investigations going on right now
looking for this stamp. A couple of East Coast auction houses have
seen them, but do not have any currently in stock. But I should be
told when they do come across and example. I will also contact a few
of the dealers named in the list on the EFO site.

George
