Dennis Rodman at the height of his pistons fame. We were at a book
signing and the line stretched for blocks. The doors were locked just before me after waiting two hours. I had a game worn jersey that I wanted him to sign and when he saw it thru the door, he made his people let me in and he not only signed it but asked me to sit and have lunch with him...I love Dennis!!! |

This reminds me of a story about my friend. He lives in Canada and is a huge
martial arts fan. Well one night at a club he saw Jean Claude Van Damme sitting at a small table surrounded by bodyguards. He didn't bother going over but his girlfriend went over to the bodyguard and said her boyfriend was a huge fan (and martial artist in his own right) and was too shy to say anything. The guard said that J-C didn't want to be bothered. Well about an hour later a different guard approached my friend and asked if he would like to meet J-C. It was the highlight of his life-- he got about fifteen minutes talking martial arts with J-C. All my friend could say is how nice he was (which doesn't jive with anything I have heard but okay). It really made his day. The guard took down his address and a few days later he got an autographed photo in the mail. It was about six years ago and he still talks about it. |

Jean Claude.... yummy. But had a LOT of problems personally. Heard
he was a total jerkwad, so happy to see something positive for a change! Nice story. I know isn't it odd? But I thought it was a rare example of how just a few minutes of kindness can really leave a mark. |

Good point. Now if only some of the celebs would realize that.

Back about 5 years ago former Baltimore Colt Art Donovan was here in Louisville
when Paul Hornung used to have his show here. He signed a Colt mini helmet and a "Baltimore Colts" hat I bought when I was in Baltimore to see the Ravens play against the current Indianapolis Colts. He was amazed to see the hat. I told him where I got it and that I'd seen the Ravens against the Colts the previous year. He told me that was the Only Raven game he'd been to(up to that point), because they were playing the Colts. Super nice guy. He's the only "celeb" I've met that I had a conversation with Jason |

But I thought it was a rare example of how just a few minutes of kindness can
really leave a mark. I can't remember the exact quote, but the late, great Jerry Garcia summed it up the best when he said... "You always need to be on your best behavior towards the fan...what might be 30 seconds of your time, can leave a life long impression on the other person." True. JC |

Lemmy of Motorhead also has a good saying about the fans: "You've gotta support
the supporters." Simple yet direct. Craig |
