USPS can also hope that eBay will save it too... http://www.usps.com/ratecase/ The USPS says that the rate increase is to pay for a required US$3.1 Billion escrow payment to cover future pension costs for USPS employees that are due to their past service in the military. They have been trying to get these costs to be covered by allocated general funds, like other US government agencies, but that issue is tied to a postal reform bill that seems stalled in Congress. -- = Eric Bustad, Norwegian bachelor programmer |

They have been trying to get these costs to be covered by allocated general funds, like other US government agencies, but that issue is tied to a postal reform bill that seems stalled in Congress. "The postal service says the filing is unique in that the decision to seek an increase is solely because of the requirement to establish a US$3.1 billion escrow fund. Should Congress pass legislation that eliminates the escrow funding requirement, the rate request will be withdrawn. The last rate hike occurred June 30, 2002." http://www.dmn.ca/Articles/Articles/...ly/inbrief.htm I've liked this too: "POSTAL SERVICE 39 CFR Part 20 International Mail: Proposed Changes in Postal Rates and Fees AGENCY: Postal Service. ACTION: Proposed rule. SUMMARY: The Postal Service, under its authority in Title 39 U.S.C. 407, is proposing changes to international mail postage rates and fees. As provided under the Postal Reorganization Act, the proposed changes will result in international postage rates that retain the overall value of service to customers, are fair and reasonable, and are not unduly or unreasonably discriminatory or preferential. The total international rate increase is 5.9 percent. ..." http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2...5/05-18260.htm It looks like USPS, by raising its fees, does a favor to its customers. -- Victor Manta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Philatelic Webmasters Organization: http://www.pwmo.org/ Art on Stamps: http://www.values.ch/ Romania by Stamps: http://www.marci-postale.com/ Communism on Stamps: http://www.values.ch/communism/ Spanish North Africa: http://www.values.ch/sna-site/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

An interesting side-note to this is that mail between the US, the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia will no longer be charged at US domestic rates. See at the above URL for details. Apparently mail between the US and Palau will continue to use US domestic rates for now. -- = Eric Bustad, Norwegian bachelor programmer |

UPS ans DHL are rapidly gaining ground with many (larger) eBayers. |

It is rumoured that first-class post for a basic 60 gram letter within the UK will rise from 30 pence to 39 pence next year. How's that for inflation! It is all to do with the de-regulation of the postal service, to allow new companies to compete with 'the post office'. David. |
