Default Any Tonga Specialists?

SG594 1976 Tonga 17 seniti Treaty of friendship with germany.

I have two issues that are clearly different printings
The seal sash on one is gold, t'other purple.
Can anyone shed light on this?.
My SG spec does not record any divergence.

The value tablet differs, I am not sure if the scan will
indicate the gold printing in black box on 1 issue.

Thanks

Thanks to our marvelous off-list Melbourne brigade

snipped:
"The stamp on the left is SG 649, an overprinted value from 1978. This is
the 18s (SG 595) overprinted with 17s.
They must have run out of 17s stamps as there are 7 older issues
overprinted with 17s. Actually there are an awful lot of overprinted
Tongan stamps, and it can be hard to track them all down."

I suspect that 17 seniti was a basic airmail rate.
Here is an airmail postcard (to the USA) dated 1973.
It is paid with a 17s stamp (Scott 295 - 1972 July 15)
http://cjoint.com/data/bjoQ7iLroJ.htm

Given the number of American tourists, I expect that
17s was a much needed value.

The other needed value was 1 Pa'anga (at the time, 10/- sterling) ,
so its main use (other than stamp collectors 8*) ) may have been
for parcels and revenue purposes.

The value of the Pa'anga has fallen over the years,
1967 : 10/- = 1 Pa'anga , 1991 : 1 AUD = 1 Pa'anga
2006 : value varies daily but about 63 AU cents = 1 Pa'anga

Yes, a lot of my multiples on piece add to 17s.
The exchange rate may indicate the value of the AUD,
we are in a mining boom.
(They are selling sea containers as homes up north now for 30-$75,000)
and looks like we will be soon sending Uranium around the planet.
