advice please on selling stamp collections...?
hello.
my mother passed away recently, leaving a stamp collection behind. since she worked in a post office back in the 50's and 60's, she regularly saved 'corners' of new stamp issues; as well she has corners of stamps that go back to the 1930's and 40's. Most of these are in mint condition. She also collected stamps as a little girl, so she has albums with miscellaneous cancelled world stamps from the early part of the century (1910's, 20's etc). These are mounted in albums. Being Canadian, most of the "corners" (new issues) are Canadian stamps. can anyone give me any hints as to a way of selling or advertising this collection so as to get a fair price? thanks for any input .. Bailee Here are a couple of web pages dealing with this subject: http://www.usstamps.org/inherit.html http://www.virtualstampclub.com/inherit.html These are somewhat oriented to US collectors, but you should still be able to get some useful info from them. Most unused US stamps from the 30's and 40's have wholesale values at or below their face value. I would guess that the situation is the same for Canadian stamps. But there may be some more valuable stamps in there and "corners" (if what collectors call "plate blocks" -- with the printing plate number) may be worth a bit more. = Eric |
