Default Canadian Silver Looney?

I would like to know what a Canadian silver looney would be worth...
I believe the condition is MS-70 or MS-75
It was minted the first year that the loonies came out
and I think is a mistake because it is silver instead of the regular
golden color...

Any help would be great!

Hi Greg:

Never heard of it. Are you sure it is a 1987 Loon $1?

There was a special 1997 'Silver Flying Loon' 10-year commemorative and
a 2003 hologram 1 oz. Silver Loon 15th anniversary issue. These are the
only official silver Loon $1 and the latter is more of a bullion
giftware product than a coin.
The 1997 Silver Flying Loon $1 is very popular and is valued at around
$110.00-$140.00 CDN while the 2003 Hologram Silver Loon wasn't much of a
'hit' in the market and is worth a bit more than an ounce of silver.

To my knowledge, the only way there could be a 1987 silver loon is if it
was a the bronze coin that was later plated. A Proof 1987 Loon $1 would
be worth about $20.00 plus the silver.

Hope this helps.

Oh, and you may want to direct your "coin" questions to the coin group
(rec.collecting.coins) for better response time. FWIW.
