Default TECH: NSM Firebird II IC Question

I have a Firebird II that does not keep the settings once the power is
turned off, any ideas? With my limited electronics knowledge and in
reading the manual I think it may be IC5, manual: "The control unit is
equipped with a battery buffered RAM (IC5) including real time clock."
1) Is there a way to confirm this?
2) Are replacements available?
3) Is it a matter of just pulled the bad IC and putting in the new?

You can replace the battery in IC5 - you just have to carve off the top
and solder in a replacement 3.6VDC lithium battery. The original device
was supposed to retain data for ten years so I guess you are doing OK...

The part is made by MAXIM (Dallas Semiconductor) and is available new
for under $50.

I tried searching the Maxim website for Id # on the IC (mk48t18b-10)
with no luck. Or were you refering to the lithium battery part is made
by Maxium?
