Default NO COMMERCIAL POSTINGS ON REC.COLLECTING.BOOKS!

Rec.collecting.books is a forum for the discussion of issues relating to
book-collecting. Commercial postings are specifically prohibited. Post them
to alt.books instead.

Rec.collecting.books is an unmoderated newsgroup, so if people *do* make
commercial postings there is nothing we can do about it except let them know
how we feel and, in extreme cases, report them to their server.

From the FAQs (http://www.massmedia.com/~mikeb/rcb/):

Why did you snip out all the bits of John's post that made it clear that
an unobtrusive pointer to a poster's sites or sales in a .sig is
acceptable, to make it appear as though he was violating the guidelines?
An on-topic post and a piece of drive-by spam are NOT one and the same.
If you want people to know about YOUR website, then post some
informative and on-topic items as part of a group conversation, with
your website information tucked away under the .sig. Then, if people
appreciate what you have to say, they might feel like visiting your
site.

Accuracy in media.

An on-topic post and a piece of drive-by spam are NOT one and the same.

Says you. Three quarters of the posts in here concern the best Ebay selling
practices. They have nothing to do with collecting. If ratty didn't ocassionally
repost the story about the time she got the crabs from Alice B Toklas in the
remainder room at City Lights I'd be constrained to unsubscribe.

Recently I was at a book signing by John Corbett (author of The Devil's
Redhead and Done for a Dime) and during the conversation he brought up a pet
theory of mine, that many successful American businessmen are complete
sociopaths. Keep your chin up fundoc, you could someday be a success.
However annoying your customer base (people like me that collect books) with
childlike whining about commercial posts. Your selfish desire to fatten
your bank account is not important to the rest of us. We do not see a need
to further corrupt rec.collecting.books with more commercial posts. You made
it to the short list of people I will not purchase from and I doubt you
inventory is rare enough that there is not literally hundreds of other
people that supply the same items at the same price. You know the rules,
play nice now before you tick off more nice people.

Now back on topic, does anyone know who won the Anthony Awards last week?

Funny, I had lunch with Corby -- that's what his friends calls him, Corby --
just the other day, and we discussed a pet theory of mine: that you're a moron.
Let's see how it plays out, shall we?

Keep your chin up fundoc, you could someday be a success.

So far, so good: egregious syntax and minimal reading comprehension skills;
we're in cretin territory. I didn't say anything about commercial posts, much
less "whining." Yamamoto whined about commercial posts; I quoted Yamamoto; some
other guy whined about my quote; I reminisced briefly about Gertrude Stein; and
now here you are whining about that. As far as I can see I'm the only one in the
entire thread that didn't whine.

Your selfish desire to fatten
your bank account is not important to the rest of us. We do not see a need

That's truly fascinating. Or would be, if I in fact had an inventory, or sold
books, or gave a flying intercourse about you, your opinion, your short list, or
anything other imbecility you might care to blather on about.

You know the rules,
play nice now before you tick off more nice people.

Ooooo. Brute.
