Default FA: 2 Nice Trimes

I posted better pictures in abpn than show up in the free ebay picture
hosting service. Make sure to check these pictures out if you're
interested in the auction.

1: 1852 3¢ Silver NGC MS 65:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=8425923781 .
I've had this one for several years, and recently upgraded it in my
collection. There are no distracting marks on the coin, and I think
that it could easily grade higher, but I never have much luck in doing
this myself. I think that I need to change my name to D. Hall when
submitting. There's a die clash visible on the obverse. This is an
unusually strong strike with bold vertical lines in the shield and
fuilly defined stars on the reverse. 1852 highest mintage of any trime,
and there are several interesting date varieties. This is the variety
defined in Breen 2909 as Thin Shallow Date. I prefer to call it the
large date variety. It looks like the same date punch used on many
half dimes and later trimes. I think that the mint initially created
special small date punches for this series, but did not always user
them. This coin is nice and white, but if you look at it under
magnification, you can see some patches of reddish-tan toning.

2. 1870 3¢ Silver NGC Proof 63:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=8425928786 . I
just recently bought this one in a PCGS Old Green Holder (PF 63 as
well) thinking that it was way nicer than the one that I already had
which was also in a PCGS Old Green Holder (PF 64). I sent them both
into NGC for crossover, and they both came back in new holders with the
same grade (WTF?). So, I'm selling this one. I still think that this
is the nicer one of the two that I have, but who am I to disagree with
the master graders at NGC. I think that the toning is very attractive,
and I can't find the marks on it that NGC does to make it only a 63.
Maybe they don't like the toning?
