Default Donating baseball cards to charity as a tax deduction?

I have heard of some folks in the hobby donating commons or just some
stuff that they don't want anymore to charity. Then they can deduct the
donation from their taxes using beckett pricing. (for example .05 per
common on '87 Topps baseball)

I have finally decided to try this and I found a local charity that will
accept the cards. I have over 70,000 cards to donate, so it would be a
nice sized deduction. I am wondering if anyone else has done something
like this before and if so do you have any advise?

Interested in your thoughts,
Mike

Hi Mike!

I have donated cards to our local hospital as a charitable contribution.

The Hospital Director who accepted the cards from me, issued me a letter of
thanks which included the amount of cards I donated. That is to say, I told
him there is approximately 10,000 cards here. Value was not mentioned in the
letter.

Even though I knew I had more than .05cent cards, I only deducted .05 value per
card as this would be the official value published by Beckett for commons. I
know I had $2, $1 and higher cards in the bunch but I didn't care. Just knowing
the kids would be getting star cards was gratifying.

Richard
