These coins in this condition typically sell for $1,500 to $2,000. The seller says in the auction description that he coin was appraised between $12,000 and $18,000. The moon is made of green cheese too. He includes significant detail about the life of Alexander the Great but doesn't even attribute or date this coin. He even has it listed in the wrong category, Roman Imperial, when the first Roman Imperial coin was minted 300 years after his Greek coin was minted. -- Email: (delete "remove this") Coin Collecting: Consumer Guide: http://rg.ancients.info/guide Glomming: Coin Connoisseurship: http://rg.ancients.info/glom Bogos: Counterfeit Coins: http://rg.ancients.info/bogos |

The seller may know nothing about it, but it was minted in Macedonia between 330 and 320 BC, either during or slightly after the lifetime of Alexander the Great. It's well struck, centered, and preserved. He has it graded at EF but it's actually an aEF coin, close enough. All indications from his multiple pics and the coin's diameter and weight are that it's completely authentic. The style of this variety is nice too, with a feminine looking Athena -- sometimes she can look a bit harsh and masculine. That symbol on the reverse is a trident. Bidding is up to $500. Three times this amount is a good deal. Four times this amount is what dealers try to sell a coin like this for. -- Email: (delete "remove this") Coin Collecting: Consumer Guide: http://rg.ancients.info/guide Glomming: Coin Connoisseurship: http://rg.ancients.info/glom Bogos: Counterfeit Coins: http://rg.ancients.info/bogos |
