Default Princess Diana: prototype memorial design by David Cornell

English artist and sculptor David Cornell designed the official Diana memorial coin for the UK: a five pound coin issued in 1999. He produced a superb portrait of Diana, that really caught her essence. However, the issued design was not Mr Cornell's first choice.

See Mr Cornell's original plaster model and design by clicking on the link below:

The topic also shows the plaster model of his final design, as well as explaining why the Royal Mint asked him to change his original design. My thanks go to Mr Cornell for providing images of his models and discussing his work.

Here you can see several of Mr Cornell's other coin designs, and there is a short interview with the artist himself. The topic is still in progress, as I have many more of his designs still to add, so look back in a few weeks' time.

Phil.
