Does anyone know whether the Tomy Anka auction house in Paris still exists?
They were on the rue du Fg. Montmartre near rue Richer and used to carry
wonderful stuff from the old French colonies. I can't seem to find any
information about them even in the Paris Yellow Pages. Thanks in advance.

Here you go Tony. They were still thriving and
the numbers were still good as of Oct 2003.

Hi Blair.

I have just been advised by some of the chaps on FRP that Mr. Anka passed
away several years ago and the business closed down. The location on the
Fg. Montmartre (near Drouot not Richer) has been taken over by a jewellery
store ATD Quart-Monde.

I recall with great nostalgia the Tomy Anka auctions/sales where I bought
some absolutely wonderful early French Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia which,
regretfully, in a moment of weakness, I sold. I have often been tempted to
start those three collections again but never actually got to do it.

Hi Tony:

For your information, number 27 now houses a tobbaconist's shop.
Possibly the address houses several businesses.
Source: RATP on-line map.

http://www32.ratp.info/Proxi/proxi.p...se&Profil=RATP
enter "27 rue du Faubourg Montmartre" in the search and
when you get the map, put the mouse on the pink square.

You might find that Bertrand Sinais' auctions will have the kind of
material you are looking for. He has two sales a year; the last one
was of over 11,500 lots, mostly France and Colonies. However, he does
not make it easy - no website, no email address and, if you have bid
successfully, credit cards are not accepted.

The mailing address is 7, rue de Chateaudun, 75009 Paris.
