Default Heinemann first editions in the early '50s

Can anyone tell me what if anything the English publisher Heinemann
did to books to indicate first edition first printings. Does "First
printed 1951" mean that this book is in fact a first edition first
printing?

Thanks for any help in this matter.

Yes, that seems to be their designation. Most UK publishers list later
printings.

With the above statement (although I think the usual form is "First
published"), and no further printings mentioned, you have a first.

Thanks very much to both of you. Good news.
