Scored Jensen TR-10U Speakers From 61'

Just got a nice super clean pair of vintage Jensen TR-10U Tri ette
speakers off of Craigs List locally for $100. As I mentioned some time
back, these were the speakers that my Dad had in his old Eico Hi Fi
system back in the late 50's early 60's.
The speakers are 16ohm 30 watts max, voiced for tubes for sure.
Each cab has a 12" woofer, 8" mid and a horn tweeter. They sound great
with the Eico HF-81 powering them at 14 watts per side. Very
efficient!
The cabinets are unfinished and spent most of their life inside an
old console cabinet. I applied some furniture oil and brought back the
finish to a light antique oak appearance. Looks nice. The date code on
the back data sheets indicates a Feb.1961 production year!
These speakers have a nice warm mid range, not too heavy on bass.
The treble adjustment on the back of each speaker I have turned down
to about 1/4....they sound really nice when playing Jazz or Acoustic
music.
Just about finished with replacing the old HiFi system from my
early youth. Would like to get a nice tube stereo FM tuner to finish
it off. Maybe a Scott, Dynaco or Fisher? As long as it doesn't require
an add on multiplex to get stereo.

have fun- the early stereo systems had a unique sound. I delved into
that push-pull tube receiver realm myself a few years ago- and tried a
Fisher 500C and Pioneer SX-2000, and about 8 different console push-
pull amps that I removed from cabinets and set up to try. In the end,
I sold them all and stuck to a single-ended Akai M8 tube stereo. A
little less power, but noticeably more detail and fidelity with the
Akai.


you're on the right track though, if you listen to 8's, you need a
tube amp to extract the most fidelity from them- an 8-track sounds
better with a tube amp, than with a solid state amp

The Eico HF-81 is a push-pull designed tube amp as far as I know. It
does have nice detail and fidelity. The Jensen TR-10U's seem to be a
perfect match for this low wattage amp. I've played CDs, LPs and 8
tracks thru it all with pleasant sounding results.
BTW....the Akai M8 is a tube based reel to reel if I'm not
mistaken....correct? My Revere 2200 reel to reel also has tubes and
sounds pretty nice playing 7.5 ips tapes on it going thru the Eico/
Jensens.
This early/antique HiFi/Stereo gear is a kick to listen to and play
around with. It sure was built to last after almost 50 years of use!

CORRECT, the Akai M8 is a reel to reel, but it's best trait and
feature is the dual monoblock single ended tube amps, which are
modular and bolt in/out with small screws on outside front panel

the R2R section is really nothing overly spectacular, but sounds
pretty good too

they are used mainly for their tube amp features

vintage tube audio is king !
