Default Roberts 808D Flea Market Find

My Dad scored a really nice Roberts 808D for $15.00 at a local flea
market over the weekend. I haven't seen the deck, but he told me over
the phone that it looks almost new without any signs of wear and plays
tapes very well.
He's picked up a couple other decks for me in the past and they
all have been in decent shape, so I'll take his word for it. I'll be
getting together with him next month when he comes into town and
should receive the Roberts then.
He's confirmed that it changes tracks with the few tapes that he
has played on it. Hasn't heard any crackling...but hey he's 80!...lol
Anyway, this will be my 2nd Roberts and hope it performs without any
issues. My other one has some static problems on some but not all
tapes.
BTW....anyone else get lucky with some recent finds? Garage Sales
and Flea Markets should be starting soon! Good Luck!

I don't do garage sales/flea markets much anymore...all the good
stuff's generally been picked over by get-rich-quick artists...like
you-know-who!

the 80D is the best all around 8-track deck, ever made- IF the track
switching circuit is put in shape, to switch with old tapes

garage sales/flea markets- there's not much incentive to go out buying
anymore- my collection is 99% complete- and there's little time for
music listening lately

Translation: He's facing a layoff from the job "wired" for him by his
daddy, "Papa Noodles", at King Fifth Wheel since GE took over, so
Cheryl Noodles won't let him spend any more money on junk. If he
can't find it in a dumpster or find some rusted out car hulk sitting
in the woods, he can't have it.

What in the world are you up to that's so all fired
important so as to preclude music listening? And goodness me you can pretty
much do anything while also listening to music (multi-tasking). I almost
bought a few 8s the other day (Rust Never Sleeps-Neil, a Wilf Carter) but
decided against them as I have those on decent LPs. I opted to spend the
money saved towards a mint Habs' sweater from probably the 70s. I suspect
someone bought it for someone and underestimated the recipient's girth by
getting a large. Instead of exchanging it, some tubby fellow has probably
been dieting to no avail in hopes of fitting into the thing all these years
since. I further postulate that he finally gave up, went out and got an XL
(or maybe by now XXL) and dropped this one off at the thrift store. Probably
only worn a few minutes as he attempted to squeeze into it from time to
time. And just in time for me as the Habs wrap up a pretty decent season of
ice hockey.

Beauty, eh! When're the finals?
These days the NHL finals run well into summer. Even
summer *here* by the time all is said and done. The robust loonie means
Canadian teams can afford to play and be competitive again. The NHL's
misguided plan (hatched by a cast off dweeb New Yorker from the NBA no less)
to move franchises to the sunbelt continues to look ridiculous and as the US
dollar drops will look even more so as marginally interested people in say
Phoenix will lose interest completely in lacklustre teams. Canadians go to
hockey games because they want to. U.S. sunbelt people (by and large) go
because there is nothing better in town that night. Lawn darts TV ratings
beat out pro hockey in the US fer cryin' out loud. The bulk of the NHL's
television revenue comes from the CBC.
