Money Laundering:)
I recently purchased a 25-piece lot of circulated Kennedy halves for a
piggy bank treasure trove that I'm starting. One of the halves in the lot, a 1966, was really dull and had a very brassy brownish tint. I really like Kennedy halves, but this was the first one I've seen that was this "brownish." So I dipped it for 30 seconds in a coin cleaning solution, then washed it in warm soapy water. The coin cleaning solution took the brown brassiness off the coin. That's my confession for the day |

I am tempted to suggest you should be spanked for ruining such a valuable
collector coin, but I will restrain myself. "Ami ." wrote in message ... You ruined an 85 cent coin. bad boy. Now its only worth 83 cents. Hi Bob, I'm a female, so it would be "bad girl!!" |

I wouldn't sweat it too much. A low value coin, probably gets most of
its value from its bullion silver content. And since you're putting the coins in your piggy bank for a show piece, it might look nice in there, all bright and shiny. Don't get zealous and start dipping all your other silver coins that you said you're putting in there, otherwise it might ruin the look of your piggy bank display and make it artificial looking. By the way, I've dipped a few 40 percent silver Kennedy halves in my lifetime, just because they weren't going to be any less "valuable" after the dipping than before and I wanted 'em shiny. (my confession for the day). Hi John I'm awaiting the shipment of Ike dollars, Liberty and Franklin halves. I plan to put them in the piggy bank in the same condition that they arrive -- no dipping! Thank you for the advice about not making the display "artificial looking." |
