Default Bust Half With Planchet Flaw

I picked up an 1831 capped bust half dollar VF
with a planchet flaw on the bottom of the reverse
going from the rim through part of 50C and the
lowest olive leaves.

Are these worth any premiums????

E-mail me personally for photos.

Harvey

A minor planchet flaw shouldn't affect the value much at all on a circulated coin. A more
significant planchet flaw generally will detract from value.

Typically planchet flaws detract from the market value, not add to it,
no? I personally feel that a flaw is a flaw, whether it's a planchet
flaw created before the coin was minted or a gouge created afterward.
Both detract from eye appeal. But some (many?) regard the former as
less of an evil, and the market value of the coin doesn't take as big
of a hit. It gets even goofier than this with really major flaws,
which turn a coin into an error coin and which can add to its value,
sometimes considerably. So flaws after a coin is minted detract most
from a coin's value, flaws before it's minted detract a little if
they're minor, and flaws before it's minted add to the value if
they're major....
