Default Separate newsgroup for Krause ERRORS! Message to KRAUSE.

I propose (perhaps with certain degree of humour) to open a new, separate
newsgroup for Krause (ex-Pick) paper money catalogues blunders and errors.
There are so many of them coming up every year, in fact more and more and
bigger ones, that a separate group would be needed for that purpose...

Here's another one:

Haiti KR-273 (a.k.a. P-273) is completely missing on page 367.

Sorry, I don't have enough time to list all the errors on one page. It would
be great, but will Krause "improve"? Probably not. It's "good" to err all
the time so the next year can bring hopes (and profit) of a PERFECT book,
but that never happens and we can only suspect why....

Finally, why don't you, Krause Publications, send us, several collectors,
your every banknote book for a thorough review before it gets to see the
light. Say 10 to 100 highly literate collectors will split each book into
pages and every person will review his/her own part and send corrections to
Krause. We assume you, Krause, are short on staff and money. We are ready to
help you, at no cost to you.

I don't hold out much hope that Krause would pay attention to these errors
as they have so far chosen to ignore all of those that I have sent them over
the years.

I doubt that Krause will change. Serious collectors will only use
Krause as a guide and refer to more specialised catalogues for detailed
information. To a certain extent omissions advantage us serious
collectors that realise there are errors and omissions and can spot a
bargain. A group to discuss there errors would be quite fun.

For a number of years there have been some serious omissions and an
incorrect inclusion in the New Zealand section. The Bank of Auckland
(s104) was never a Government issued banknote but is in the General
issues section and the Colonial bank of issue notes were Government
issued but is not listed in the General issues. The Wilson OK pound
(which look almost identical to a standard 159b Wilson note is worth
around a hundred times the value and is a well known variety) is not
listed . Considering these notes are all in Volume 2 which runs to 1960
they have had a serious number of years to get it right. Pricing is
also a number of years behind the local market.

Western Samoa Pick 2 note was issued in 1915, five years before the
Pick 1 note. (Pick 2 is incorrectly listed as a 1920 issue) Also there
was a 1915 five pound issue which isn't listed.

Krause (F&M) is just too big to take the time to correct
these errors. One of their reps has come into this
newsgroup to say otherwise but the proof is in the
pudding. As long as people keep buying the books
in spite of the errors that they know are in there what
incentive is there to take the time to correct them
from a business point of view?

So what alternatives are there for world paper money?

For a comprehensive book on world paper money? At this point I don't
think there is any.

Krause would own the copyright on the numbering system and that is well
entrenched in
the hobby. If another company wanted to put out their own world paper
money catalog that
would be a major roadblock

Krause got into an ugly court battle years ago in the world of stamps
about them trying to
use I believe it was the Scott numbers in their catalogs without
clearing it with the Scott Co.
