Default 1898 Silver Dollar - Value?

I have a sealed 1898 silver dollar. It might have an 'O' designation for New
Orleans. I havent been able to verify it is an 'O'. I have been told it is
near a wreath. Can anyone help me verify this? I want to put it on Ebay but
dont want to make a false claim.

Thanks!

George

Here's a photo of the reverse of one of my O mint Morgans.

How is it sealed? What does the holder say? Don't try to take the coin
out of the holder because it is probably certified (or "slabbed") and
this would void any guarantee made by the certifying company!

You'll find the "O" on the reverse side of the coin right underneath
the wreath and approx. between the "D" and "O" of the word "DOLLAR".
Here is the reverse of a nice 1881-S Morgan dollar that I just
uploaded to my Yahoo picture folder. Look for the "S", that is where
the "O" should be (if any):

1898 and 1898-O are both fairly common Morgans -- 1898 with no mint
mark would be from the Philadelphia mint. The redbook for 2003 lists
the market value for such coins with grade MS-60 at $20 and MS-63 at
$30. Higher grades (65 through 70) command higher prices than this.
The 1898-S is less common and much more expensive in the higher
grades. 1898 proof coins sell for about $1,500 accoding to the 2003
book. No proof coins were minted anywhere but Philadelphia, though, so
they won't hve a mint mark. Today's prices are probably somewhat
higher, but not much. Also, check out http://www.pcgs.com/prices for
the current PCGS prices.

If your coin has been slabbed by either PCGS or NGC, you should say so
in the item header and in the description text of your auction because
this will attract more buyers and get you higher bids. Also, your
pictures should include one of the certificate along with any numbers
which might appear on the label. Finally, you should be aware that
there are other companies out there who do certifications, but only
PCGS and NGC are considered authoritative by most serious collectors.

Good luck ... it's a jungle out there!

Guys thanks for the feedback on the coin. I definately have an 'o' coin, but
not as nice as the one on the web link. At least I have an idea for what it
is worth for puttin on Ebay!

Thanks again, and cheers!

George
