Are we accepting $2 bills?
Had my second run-in with a teller asking a manager if they take $2
bills. The first was some jail baiter who probably never saw one before but today was a 'seasoned' clerk who needed the manager's permission as the store had stop accepting them for a bit. I've seen 'no bills over $50 accepted' so I assume they can refuse a $2 bill? She didn't give me a reason why they stopped taking them for a while, just said management told them to. The conversation had a few people in line talking about the bills and how you can only get them at the race track. Uh huh, if you say so :-) |

Why in the world would a store take $1 and $5 bills but not a $2 bill? Have they received counterfeit two-dollar bills? I've never heard of a counterfeit deuce. That's why it's so funny to see a clerk use one of those counterfeit-detecting pens on twos. I used to ask why they were doing that, but I never got a good answer so now I just smile and watch them. Is it that if they're not familiar with it then it must be counterfeit? I suppose it's just as legal to refuse a $2 bill as it is a $50 or $100. Personally, if I were using $2 bills for a purchase and they refused to take them, I'd leave the merchandise on the counter and take my business elsewhere. Paul |

Paul ========= Had my Visa backup for my whopping $8.63 bill. Let them get the slight profit eaten up by Visa surcharges :-) Oh yeah - I was at a fishing show last weekend and paid some guy with a $2. He was admiring it and passed it onto another customer who requested it in change. Probably will sit in some drawer though. Poor Jeff just doesn't get around too much ;-( |

Uh huh, if you say so :-) Ha, I spend $2 bills all the time in the Metro Detroit area. Last time I had a real problem was at an Old Country Buffet restaurant in Pontiac, Michigan. Went to pay with six $2 bills, and the cashier refused to take them. I was so speechless, I just gave them to a friend and he paid for me. I never thought of asking the manager, but called the restaurant the next day to complain. The managers explanation - the young lady never saw $2 bills before. Anyway, he said yes, they do take them. Last time I went to my bank to get a order of $2 bills ($800), I told the story to the teller, and she looked up at me with a very surprised expression on her face. She said, they have to take them! Anyway, me and several friends are heading to Old Country Buffet tonight, I will try again and will be ready to call over the manager. Oh, and you do know what $2 bills are called - "idiot finders" |

Guess they thought I was a "walking bank"...... |
