Nice Russian coin on e-fake
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...84328 33&rd=1
This has some of the worst lettering ever seen on a fake. The seller was notified but ignored the message. RW Julian |

I got an acknowledgement back from fleaBay that they are "investigating",
in other words don't put your hand on your bum. Now the item is up to $102.50, with probably a much higher proxy bid from an Auzzie bidder. -- emails to (myuserid).at.lycos.com Tir nam Beann, nan Gleann, s'nan Gaisgeach - Saor Alba A-Nis! Thanks for the assist. I also wrote ebay about this piece and got the
standard canned response. About a month ago I did the same, with the same results - ebay did nothing. There are currently 3 more fakes on ebay, as follows: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...87156 26&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...86717 28&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=39286717 28 In all three cases the seller was notified that the pieces are false but did nothing. The seller of the 1718 two roubles, however, replied that if I think the piece is a fake, then do not bid! The lettering (pyat kopeki/yekaterinburg) looks like one of those ransom notes with letters cut & pasted from a newspaper. Anka |

A point well made. However, perhaps the first failure was a fluke. If
there is a second failure then I will notify the appropriate people at the ANA that ebay is not cooperating. What you need to do is get one of the higher-ups at the ANA to recommend you for eBay's Coins Community Watch team (CCW) so that your complaints are taken more seriously. I imagine the members of this team are given a direct e-mail address to someone at eBay who might actually care about the problem. ++++++++++ Phil DeMayo - always here for my fellow Stooge When bidding online always sit on your helmet Just say NO to counterfeits |

The Coins Community Watch (CCW) is a new joint effort between eBay and the ANA to help weed out fraudualent auctions in the Coins category....this is why I mentioned it to you. This past Monday night there was a well attended online workshop on the CCW. The following is a link to the 101 posts in that workshop that will explain the workings of the CCW and show you the concerns expressed by eBay users....and eBay's response to those concerns: http://babyurl.com/48ligF ++++++++++ Phil DeMayo - always here for my fellow Stooge When bidding online always sit on your helmet Just say NO to counterfeits |

I saw some fakes for sale in Ukraine a few years ago, some of them are lousy
as you describe, however some are very well executed. As best as I could get out of the sellers they originated in Russia. I saw some fake Russian plate money for sale in Khabarovsk(Russian Far East) back in 1991. The link notice is appreciated. It is well worth reading as it shows
that a number of people are concerned about numismatic fraud on ebay. RWJ Phil DeMayo wrote: RW Julian wrote: A point well made. However, perhaps the first failure was a fluke.
