Canadian Dollar at Parity With Greenback
Come on down WWW and get some cheap American goods.
Thanks. I was just down last week and bought some antique glass for a project that cost me about what it would have here had it been available. Also a cotton shirt and a 2-4 of Grain Belt. We are allowed to bring $200 Canadian worth back across after a 48 hour stay. American goods, now... I am not so sure. I mostly saw Chinese, Turkish, and Indian products Been a long time since we saw the like. Over 30 years. Tour packages to the States are a hot ticket. Grand Forks, ND a mere two hour drive south for Winnipeggers is gearing up for jingling cash registers after a 30 years dearth of Canadian shoppers and the flood that knocked them down for a bit. Not so good for Canadian manufacturers who really enjoyed the lower value loonie. I had several good eBay years back when the Canadian dollar was 55 cents flabby now it isn't worth my time. I think I quit when our dollar got to the 80 cent mark. Good time to buy now though. |

It's all cheap Chinese crap, propped up price-wise by the worthless Chinese Yaun. I'm SOOOO glad I dumped all my US dollars back when Bush's ruinous economic policies were obviously tanking the US economy and the US$, especially his laissez faire attitude with the predatory Chinese and their sinking Yaun. Now, with all that appreciation of the C$, it's like having a savings account that paid me 50%...and with absolutely no risk! The only extra downside, other than the usual taxation, is the conversion costs when reconverting back to US$...whenever that happens, but that'll be a point or less...a pittance when considering a 50% rise in value. All this without the risk and fraud of Wall Street! I was able to offset all of the depreciation of my real property in the last six months, while others are going "upside down" on a daily basis. Not to worry...it'll come back...evenutally...but it's going to be a rough ride for most, and it's expected to get a lot worse, except for the very rich...and the smart. Again, thank Bush for his laissez faire policy regarding the mortgage industry..."deregulation" proves to be a mistake once more. Making loans to ghetto trash and illegals who have no business buying a home under any circumstances is NOT sound lending policy, and should have been curtailed by Federal regulators long before the whole industry went into this unprecedented meltdown, the worst we've seen in US financial institutions since the Great Depression. The "sub-prime mortgage" fiasco can be traced directly to Bush's "ownership society" scam...another reason why the GOP will go the way of the Whigs after '08...fiscal irresponsibility. So, with a fistful of C$, I've managed to offset the depreciation on my real property with Canadian prosperity, while those who "believed" in the US$ are in bad shape. Can't say they weren't warned...Carter's Treasury Secretary perfectly predicted this exact scenario on the McLaughlin Group some time ago, as I related in this group when it happened. I figure I could get a lifetime's worth of crullers and coffee at Tim Horton's at this rate...and maybe buy a few franchises while I'm at it! Maybe I could go partners with Mr. Guess Who on some Salisbury House outlets around Winnie! Or, buy a fleet of beer trucks! Beauty, eh? I wouldn't be sinking any new capital into C$ right now, though. Historically, when the C$ passes par with the US$, there is significant resistance to any further deflation relative to the US$. Another one where there's still room to make some appreciation: The AU$. No worries, mate! |
