Default Coin Vault Dead

Article in CW, June 5, 06 is saying that the Coin Vault show is closing
and that the Shop at Home Network shuts down June 22. The company,
Scripps-Howard that purchased Shop at Home 4 yrs ago when it was running
a deficit then, has lost another 84 million since.

SilverTowne which conducted order fulfillment and drop ships from its
headquarters in Indiana, was headquarters for all coin products sold on
Coin Vault.

David Henrickson, of SilverTowne, believes that the closing down of the
network will have an impact on the coin collecting hobby.

What do you all think?

They were doing hundreds of thousands in business a month. That's
gotta have an impact. I think Ebay will get a solid boost. And if I
were a small local coin shop, I'd buy some advertising like "Miss Coin
Vault? We've got better coins at better prices!!!". Some of that money
is still in the marketplace.

When I first read your reply Bruce, I read it as "Miss Coin Vault"
(like "Miss America") and was temporairly thrown for a loop! I
couldn't imagine what a local coin store beauty contest might be like!

Not that I think women who collect coins wouldn't be worth watching
mind you, I just had a second or two when I was trying to connect
"beauty pagent" to "coin collecting" and didn't think the general
public would go for such a thing. Then again, they went for CV in the
first place, so anything's possible I guess!

Buy the book before the coin
don't forget to *READ* the book after you've bought it!

Unfortunately, I think Chanbers & Co. will probably move to another
shopping network. Also unfortunately, they will be able to say "we
sold $xxxx worth over the last 10 years. If you let us come to your
channel, you'll get a cut of that."

Just because the rock was turned over in one locaation doesn't mean
the creatures living under it won't scurry quickly to another rock.

But yes, the money that those unfortunate folks might have spent on CV
may find it's way into brick & mortar stores or eBay. Maybe it's time
to come up with a CV style template for coin listings, folks like to
buy from familiar places, sounding like CV may get some action.

Gotta take a break now, my ethics alarm just went off and I need to
reboot my brain!

The judges would grade on a scale of 1 to 70, looking carefully to
distinguish between wear and damage, and natural versus artificial
toning. Post-birthing modifications would be disqualifying including
piercings for jewelry (umbilical cord cutting is part of the birthing
process).

There would be long debates on the appropriateness of acne ointments:
Are they surface modifications or are they just restoring the original
surface?

My worry is that when these folks go to sell they've going to blame
the dealer for the "robber" prices he's offering.

It happens in our shop at least once a month. "You're a thief! These
uncirculated Silver Eagles are worth at least $35 each! That nice man on TV
said so..."

To quote ol' Butter Lips Chambers "You're never gonna get a better deal!"
This I say to those that purchased from the CV. You will find, as others
have already posted, that prices at a bricks and mortar coin store or over
the internet will be much closer to reality. I think their demise is a GOOD
thing for the hobby. Just my 2 cents worth.
