Default mercury dime die breaks

I got lucky on a bid, snagged a PCGS Peace dollar, MS65, a PCGS PR69
Washington Commem, and a 1940-s merc dime, PCGS MS 66, all for $100. I was
getting ready to list the dime when I looked closely at the obverse and saw
.... these cool die breaks. I mean, that die was done for, about to break
into three pieces. I posted picks of it over in
alt.binaries.pictures.numismatic.

Is this sort of thing common for mercs?

Neat! I don't recall ever seeing a Merc so die-cracky. At one time I
really didn't appreciate such stuff, but now after becoming addicted to
early copper I have come to love the whole gamut of cuds, cracks, etc.
