Default FA: 2-Days, U.S. Civil War/Span War Veterans Medal in Box + More

U.S. Civil War/Span War Veterans Medal in Box + More

2-Days Left on Ebay...............

This is an old U.S. Veterans Medal from either the Civil War or the Spanish
American War. It is in its original box and comes with 2 lapel buttons. This
came from an estate sale. The medal is a bronze planchet that has an
American Eagle sitting on top and crossed cannons on the sides. In the
center is series of concentric circles with a laurel wreath on the outside
of the circles. The inner most circle has the letters (V) and (S)
superimposed on each other. The outer circle has the words, (Gratia Dei
Servatus, MDCCCLXXXI). The medal is suspended by a water-silk ribbon with
the color scheme (blue/red/white/large blue/white/red/blue). There is a bar
at the top that has a pin back to pin to the uniform. This bar has the
words, (Filii Veteranorum). The backside of the planchet medal has a
concentric series of circles. The inner most circle has the (V) and (S)
superimposed. The outer circle has the words (Filii Veteranorum). The medal
maker is in very small letters on the outside of the circle and says
(Chas.M. Robbins Co., Attleboro, Mass.). Medal and ribbon are in excellent
condition.
The medal has its original box. It is a dark green color and measures 2
inches x 3 ½ inches. It has a yellowish-cream silk bottom on the inside. The
box is marked on the top side (V. H. Blackinton & Co., Attleboro Falls,
Mass). It is in excellent condition with no broken edges, creases, soiling
or water damage.

Also included are 2 bronze label buttons. One button is of a crest design
having crossed swords, stars, and a floral artwork. The other button is in
the shape of the liberty bell and says (Over the Top, Liberty Army, W.S.S).

I do not know for sure, but I believe this is from the Spanish American War
rather than the civil war. I say this due to the Roman Numerals that equate
to 1881, the words Filii (for Phillipines ??), and the color of the ribbon
pattern which is close to the U.S. Philippine Congressional medal pattern of
blue/whites/reds. Any information will be added to this listing.
