HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Wells, Fargo, and Company opened its San Francisco office on July 2,
1852.

The United Kingdom issued a 1-penny pictorial stamped envelope
commemorating the 50th anniversary of uniform penny postage on July 2,
1890.

The British Airship R34 began the first crossing of the Atlantic by a
lighter-than-air vessel , and the first round trip trans-Atlantic flight
by any vessel, on July 2, 1919. The R34 carried mail in both directions.

The first international rocket mail flight took place on July 2, 1926.
Rocket pioneer Robert Goddard launched a rocket carrying more than 1,000
pieces of mail from McAllen, Texas. The rocket landed at Reynosa,
Mexico, where the mail was recovered and brought to the post office for
forwarding via the Mexican postal system.
